India produced a lot of Mathematicians but in the last 2 centuries only Ramanujan without any formal education, stunned the world with his discoveries.
It was Dr Manmohan Singh, who decided to celebrate 125th birthday of Srinivasa Ramanujan as NATIONAL MATHS DAY and 2012 as NATIONAL MATHS YEAR. He also released a postal stamp on him.
What PM Jawahar Lal Nehru felt about Ramanujan is obvious in the above slide
Ramanujan died on 26th April 1920, yet her wife Janki Ammal had to wait for 64 years to get a bust of Ramanujan. Irony is that , the bust made by Paul Garland was due to the money collected from the Western mathematician. She thanked Richard Askey after getting the bust of Ramanujan.
It is our moral duty to respect our heroes who made immense contributions in the field of Maths and Science.
J B S Haldane , a scientist from England was called to speak on Ramanujan's 75th birthday and what he told to the public need to understand in the present scenario.
Ramanujan's maternal family house at Erode was located by Japnese Mathematician in 2013.
Where were the Indians?
Why Indians could not locate the house of its own genius?
This ppt is a part of my lecture on - What should a student learn from the life of Ramanujan organised by CSIR -CSMCRI, Bhavnagar on 22nd Dec 2022. It was attended by KV, NVS and ATL School students of Gujarat region.
